Cross-Walks

Cross-Walks

38683 -  Learn To Laugh
Frank & John Muratore

38684 - Foxy Lady

Recorded At Krieger Field Recording Co.
Eng. Tom Krieger
Producer Jack Smith

1977

The Krieger-Field Recording Studios were located in Akron, , Ohio.  Some rock bands recorded there such as White Harvest, Devo and Tin Huey.

Frank Muratore has been a lifelong resident of Ohio, born and raised in a musical family. From his mother’s singing talent, to his brother John’s accomplishments on classical guitar, Frank had an early introduction to rock and roll from the family radio, listening to the pioneers Chuck Berry, Ricky Nelson, and the Everly Brothers. The real revelation was 1964’s performance of the Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Through his older brothers, Frank was exposed to the Beatles even earlier when all saw the famous “Jack Parr Show” performance, and all thought how strange they looked. Buying the first Beatles record in January of 1964 before they were on “Ed Sullivan” put Frank first in his classroom to have the new sound, and later that year, he formed his first tribute, calling themselves The Jr. Beatles. After playing several instruments in high school, and forming a rock band with his brother, Frank has performed in several professional groups through college and after.

In 1996, he joined Hard Day’s Night, A Beatles tribute band,  to fulfill his dream to one day be a Beatle, and has had a “fab” time ever since.

"Ole Jaybird" Drennan Sings Country and Gospel

"Ole Jaybird" Drennan
Sings Country and Gospel

LP

1969

Artists Recording Co. # 24533/24534

Side 1 :

Oh Lonesome Me
With Pen In Hand
Snowflakes
King Of The Road
I Can't Stop Loning You

Side 2:

Happy Tracks
In The Garden
The Farmer And The Lord
Down By The Riverside
If I Could Help Somebody

Recorded in Akron, Ohio in 1969. The musicians include Ole Jaybird Drennan, Vic Clay, Bobby Rutledge, & Jerry Brightman. Other credits go to Henry Pawlak, Danny Koker, George Younce, Glenn Payne, & Mac Taunton. Side One is country music and Side Two is gospel music. Includes renditions of songs by Don Gibson, Bobby Goldsboro, & Roger Miller.

Jaybird Drennan died in December 2006.
For decades, Jaybird Drennan was synonymous with country music radio in Akron, if not most of Northeast Ohio.

His signature "Howdy, Partner" graced the airwaves for 27 years on Akron country outlet WSLR/1350, which was universally known as "Whistler". And in the years when Cleveland listeners had no access to country music on the radio, he served audiences in that market as well.

Dayspring
Morningstar MS-00001

1974

33607/33608

Tracks:
Gospel Ship
Sad Times
Joy Comes In The Morning
I'm Happy

I Was In The Spirit
Rock Of Ages
Eyes Of The Lord
Down By The Riverside
Pat Calfee :
As it turns out, that was a stock cover from Rite Records. I chose it because it seemed like a Yes or Led Zeppelin kind of look. [...] The Dayspring record was a home-grown affair - the entire recording budget was $315. The typesetting on the back was donated, the record label was hand drawn. I was 18 yrs old, with no money and no job - but a big desire to praise the Lord. I still think we made a good choice - the cover still looks cool - at least we don't have any printing on the front! :-)
Ken Scott :
It should be obvious from listening to loud psychy rockin’ cuts like ‘Joy Comes In The Morning’ and ‘Eyes Of The Lord’ that this Ohioan had access to a Glass Harp album or two. Good job in the production yet holds to a totally homemade and primitive sound with jammin’ acoustic bluesy folkrocking maneuvers in the league of Randy Matthews, Ron Moore, and Mike Johnson, sometimes choosing to handle all instruments (guitar, bass, piano, percussion) himself like on the magical ‘I Was In The Spirit’. ‘Rock Of Ages’ boasts a crude electric blues riff with raw basement vibe and lengthy leads. Closes with a raucous, hand-clappin’, buncha-folks-havin’-a-party version of ‘Down By The Riverside’. Unreal cover art depicting mountainous landscape with orange sky and giant green sun. 1000 made. O/M 20585 ~ Skinny Minny
O/M 20586 ~ Mickey's Monkey

Producer Ed Groves

The Sabers were formed in 1965 by three Barberton junior high school students. Guitarist Dave Lawson was the band leader, while Dave Kelley on bass and Eugene Pocopak played drums. In the fall of '65 Andy Gunn joined and took over lead guitar - just in time for the group to enter and win the school's 9th grade talent show...

Gospel Favorites Of The Haymonds

Produced by George Gaines

I’m Bound For That City

side two :

Come A Little Closer
Oh What A Happy Day
Home Sweet Home
Because He Lives
If We Never Meet Again

Rite # 41585/41586

From the back cover :
In answer to hundreds of requests from people who have enjoyed their singing, the Haymonds have decided to record some of their most requested songs.

They attended the same church in Akron, Ohio. Harriet was singing solos and Hollis was directing the choir. Soon after that, they started singing together, and have been for the last 33 years. They were married in 1947.

They have been associated with Rev. And Mrs. Robert Robison for 32 years and have sung on their WINGS OF FAITH T.V. programs for the past 10 years. Many people have been led to the LORD through their singing.
Despite their age and bad health, they are still singing for the LORD and will continue to do so, until the LORD calls them home.
It is my sincere hope that you will receive as big a blessing from hearing this album, as I did recording it.
It was through their financial help that CHEROKEE STUDIOS got started.
You see, they are very special to me, because they are my parents, and it was through them that I found the LORD.

I hope that you will believe as I do, that to « Make a joyful noise unto the LORD » is good for the soul.
George Gaines
